The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) was yesterday, April 3rd able to order the immediate upward review of electricity tariffs.
The NERC Vice Chairman, Musiliu Oseni, revealed this while speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Mr Oseni explained that only electricity customers in Band A would be affected by the increase.
However, the commission has approved a rate review of N225 per kilowatt hour for just under 15 per cent of the customer population. So that means less than 15 per cent of the customers will be affected. The commission had issued an order which was titled April Supplementary Order taking effect from yesterday, April 3rd.
Considering the high cost of living in the country, the Publisher of MalamMB’s Daily, Mubarak Bello (Malam MB) was able to interview some Nigerians yesterday where a resident of Bauchi metropolis, Malam Yahya Muhammad said, he can’t cope with the baseless increase of the electricity tariff and he would resort to using solar energy.
Another civil servant in Bauchi, Danladi Manga blamed the increase on the Nigerian leaders where he said, the leaders lack empathy.
Alhaji Sani Muhammad a businessman in Bauchi didn’t hesitate to express his dismay where described Nigerian leaders as heartless.
